Homestead Heritage

Yesterday I went on a field trip with my sister and her three little boys to the Homestead Heritage, a local homesteading community. It was such a beautiful day for an outing, although it did get a little warm at times. Normally we go there about twice a year when they have their craft fairs. We go in September during the Sweet Sorghum Festival and in November (the weekend of Thanksgiving) when they have an annual crafts fair. They do offer walking tours with demonstrations throughout the year, which is what we were there for. We watched several demonstrations, went on a hay ride, toured the grounds and perused the craft shops. One of my favorite demonstrations was watching a border collie herding goats. I think I liked this because the dog reminded me of mine and my husband's first dog, a black and white border collie named Lady. She was a very clever dog, much like the one we saw at the demonstration. Other demonstrations included spinning wool into yarn, blacksmithing, woodworking and pottery. I mostly just enjoyed the atmosphere. Everything is so laid back and simple. No one is in a rush and everyone seemed so pleasant. It just makes you really appreciate the simple things in life and makes you want to take the time to stop and smell the roses. It also made me want to come home and crochet something......but I didn't .....lol.
If you would like to see the place I am talking about check out their website.
