Baby Chick

One of our hens have been nesting for a while now and surprised us today when her egg hatched out. She laid her egg in one of our old flower pots that was sitting on top of a deep freezer on our back porch. Rarely has she gotten off that egg. My husband decided to slip another egg under her so we could have two of them hatch out. Only one of them hatched so far but maybe the other one won't be too much longer, maybe a day or two. We brought the little chick inside and put it in a box with a drop light shinning down on it. It's already pecking at it's food and drinking it's water. I don't understand how these tiny things know what to do. It's amazing.

The chick is doing great, as a matter of fact we have two now, a white one and the black one. We kept them in the house for a few days but now they are staying in the barn. I'll have to get a picture of both of them on here.

I love your picture of the hen and chick. Jim told me about the hen sitting on the eggs. That is so neat. That is something Nanna would enjoy hearing, huh?
Love y'all,

PS Thanks for sending the website address to me. I've enjoyed reading it and your pictures of the sunset last night looked just like it did out here on the "hill".
